One Monday afternoon I received a phone call from the Director of the Milan Comics Museum.
He asked me if I’d have been pleased to participate, as a special guest, a great event related to the world of comics together with the iconic Milo Manara, to the next edition of Cartoomix Milano.
I never miss a new challenge so I accept immediately.
As a result, the problem of what to do that hasn't already been done immediately arises. I start to discard in my mind every famous people representation, represented in every possible way, gigantic, colorful, negative, Kate Haring style, everything seemed to me already seen.
After a few days the idea finally begins to be born using clothes as a palette, as if they were sheets on which selected cartoonists could pour their imagination. The clothes had to be simple, in black or white.
The material, an interesting Jersey made with milk fiber, the designs would do the rest.
So I contacted some very talented cartoonists and the project was born.
Ale Puro, young, sweet and talented, would have put down on paper his sweet children, his princesses, his fantasy so simple and fresh, the one that makes us remember that inside each of us there is still that child we were before.
Mr. Salvagno, a highly experienced cartoonist, would have paraded his visionary characters: Pulviscolo, Gommo and the disturbing Lady Modigliani.
Mr. Jannuzzi, author of a valuable illustrated work by the Little Prince, would have given voice to this famous character.
Last but not the least, Vortice Rosa, Milan cartoonist and project’s enthusiastic would have opened a window to little Mia, a sweet curious girl, who looks through hypothetical cracks to see a whole new world.
The dresses with hot air balloons and butterflies follow to represent dreams and we conclude the show with evening dresses made in a very serious black and silver micro plissé, played down by large comic-style onomatopoeic writings, made with an innovative rubbery embossed material.
What can I say…the models are fabulous, already trasformed as comics characters by the wigs made especially for them. Everything is accompanied by the inevitable amphibians which are among my favorite accessories expesially if they do not enhance the leg because they scream grit and self-confidence.
I thank with gratitude and love the art and the wonderful people who participated this project and determined its success.
